In July 2012, Kim and I returned to Maine and spent a lovely week with our friend Judy, her friend Nancy and Nancy's daughter Rachel camping at Hermit Island, northeast of Portland.

The surf was a little rough on Sunday.

We stayed at a campsite a short distance from the beach, but almost everything was within walking distance from our's or Nancy's camp site

We went rock climbing in the natural jetties between the beaches

The geology of the Maine coastline is very interesting.  Some granitic rocks with associated contact zones produced mica schist with garnets and tourmaline, marble veins and interesting folded kneiss.

Of course, no trip to Maine is complete without a trip to the country to pick up blueberries. We found blueberries and steamer clams here.
